Convites for Climate Resilience was a research proyect developed in alliance with ETH Zürich. The process consisted of a capacity-building and pilot construction programme that employs ‘convites’, a traditional Colombian practice of communal construction. Convites function as what Miraftab (2004) terms an ‘invented space’: a site of collective action whose legitimacy derives from the participating stakeholders themselves. The convites serve simultaneously as pedagogical spaces (where participants learn about nature-based solutions through hands-on practice), as trust-building processes (weaving collaboration between residents, students, public officers and construction workers), and as testing grounds for the Cultural Appropriateness framework (where the co-defined design criteria are applied to select and implement pilot interventions).
